Is Your Skin Care Routine Ready for Autumn? All-Natural Fall Skincare Tips and Strategies

Updated: Oct 1, 2019

The kids are back in school now, and the leaves are beginning to change in colour. As autumn comes, it's time to make some changes to our skincare routines.

Colder weather causes the humidity both inside and outside to drop, this leads to dry air and even dryer skin. This, combined with the need to turn on your home's heating for the first time, can lead to itchy skin. It's also common for skin ailments such as eczema to flare up during autumn months.

The best way to combat dry skin is to use a thicker moisturizer with higher hydration properties. There are some excellent all-natural moisturizers on the market. Ideally, you can find one that contains lots of ceramides (fatty acids that replenish the skin during colder weather). Organic body lotions can help alleviate dry and itchy skin with head to toe hydration. It's also a good idea to not exfoliate as it gets colder and to cut back on using skincare products with glycolic and retinoids. Our bodies are mostly made of water, and we require it to have healthy skin. Using a humidifier during the colder months is another great way to keep your home comfortable and skin moist throughout the fall and winter.

Summer sun can cause various issues for your skin, including the lowering of antioxidants. These minerals and vitamins play a vital role in achieving healthy and vibrant skin, and the fall is the perfect time of year to boost your antioxidant levels. They protect the skin from commonly-found free radicals, these molecules will cling onto the collagen in a person's skin, causing it to look dull and decrease its elasticity. Antioxidants are also known to reduce skin irritation, improve the skin's complexion, and slow down the ageing process (wrinkles). Luckily, there's the Chaga mushroom. This superfood is loaded with antioxidants and has been proven to provide some fantastic and powerful healing and nutritional properties.

Recently we began incorporating Wild Harvested Chaga infused oil to our body creams. Our Chaga Gold Body Cream was designed to provide hydration, keeping your skin soft throughout the year. Not only to keep your skin feeling smooth, but it also to retain and draw in moisture. All of our all-natural body creams are handcrafted only including the highest-quality ingredients.

It's not only your skin that becomes dry during the autumn months, but your hair can also feel the effects. Try using a shampoo and conditioner with additional moisturizing and lubricating abilities. This will not only keep your hair moisturized but will also help keep it static-free and vibrant throughout the colder seasons.

Hot showers feel great this time of year, but washing with sizzling-hot water can actually strip your skin and hair of its natural oils. Your morning hot shower could be causing your hair to be brittle and skin to become itchy.

The crisp fall weather and its low humidity and harsh wind can also dry out a man's beard. Try applying a few drops of our Chaga-infused beard oil after your shower and a couple of additional times throughout the day. Our chaga beard balm will add an extra layer of moisturizing to your beard and face, providing a layer of protection from even the harshest fall-time wind. Brushing your beard will help you distribute the oil and balm throughout your entire beard and will also help you shape and style it.

It's important to take a high-quality multivitamin this time of year. Remember, cold and flu season is on the way, so you'll want to load up on vitamin C to boost your immune system. We have a great selection of Chaga teas, that can help and are the perfect way to load your body up with antioxidants and boost your immune system, while actually tasting great.

Chaga tea can help keep your mind sharp with L–theanine (a natural compound found in tea). Adding Chaga into your cooking routine is another way to get some additional vitamins and nutrients into your body this fall. We regularly post Chaga recipes on both our website and Facebook Page. And for those that subscribe to our blog, stay tuned for our new cookbook with tons of delicious recipes using Chaga. It's sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Autumn is a beautiful time of the year, and it's an excellent season to really enjoy nature. In addition to wearing a comfy sweater, it's also essential to protect your skin, hair, and body. The good news is that any skin discomfort and issues can be easily prevented with a few simple steps.
